Cannabis & Pain

Pain isn’t something we think about until either ourselves or our loved ones are experiencing it.  And once we are experiencing it, it is hard to get off our minds. As a Nurses, I see pain everywhere, all around us.  People are suffering from pain: some explained, some unexplained, some chronic, some acute. Some people use cannabis to treat paint, some people are searching for alternative ways to treat pain, some want opioids.  Some people have tried “everything” and still get no relief.

Cannabis and Pain

Cannabis, THC, CBD, and Pain

So how does cannabis work to fight or relieve pain?  THC has an analgesic property which we know can reduce pain.  We know that THC can relieve pain all on it’s own, and THC-CBD combo is also very effective in combating pain.

But what about CBD or Whole Plant Hemp with a variety of cannabinoids and terpenes?  And what about CBD topicals? Well hemp based products act with certain receptors in the brain, creating anti-inflammatory activity.  Reduction in inflammation = reduction in pain, in most cases.

And there are strains of hemp based CBD products containing terpenes that also aid in reducing inflammation.  Take the terpene caryophyllene for instance. Caryophyllene is the only known terpene to interact with cannabinoid receptors to help enhance its pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties.
