Autoimmune Disease, Inflammation, and CBD
This isn’t the first time I have said that inflammation is the root of illness, health conditions, and even Autoimmune Disease. And that is why inflammation-fighting workouts, foods, supplements, and self-care are so popular right now in the health & wellness industry. We are obsessed with inflammation...or atleast I am as a self-confessed health nerd. And today I want to share some information about inflammation and autoimmune disease, and some simple ways to help with chronic inflammation.
First, inflammation is completely normal. It is our bodies way of protecting us and helping us heal. Like when you cut your finger, your body has an innate reaction to trigger your immune system to send special cells to that area to help your blood clot, fight infection, and repair the damaged skin. That is a good kind of infection.
Inflammation becomes a problem when it becomes chronic. Chronic inflammation causes damage to our tissues, our joints, blood vessels, and organs. And many health specialists believe that if we let inflammation go on too long it can turn into an autoimmune disease.
There are many different Autoimmune diseases, but they all involve the immune system attacking a part of your body. Some conditions that clients that I have worked with are rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn's and ulcerative colitis, thyroid conditions, and skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema.
How do you treat them? Well there are medications that manage the symptoms that your doctor can prescribe. As a Nurse and a Health Consultant, I take a more holistic approach with nutrition, lifestyle changes, herbs/supplements to help reduce inflammation and bring homeostasis back to our immune system.
How do you know you have chronic inflammation? Your doctor can run some lab tests that indicate inflammation in our bodies. But there are also some signs that you can look for:
Are you tired all the time, chronic fatigue?
Stubborn belly fat or trouble maintaining your weight
Digestive issues like fas, diarrhea, bloating, constipations
Skin conditions like rashes
Frequent headaches, brain fog
Anxiety, depression, mood disorders
These are all warning signs, and may require you to make some nutrition and lifestyle changes to reduce that inflammation.
What kinds of things can cause inflammation?
Smoking & alcohol
Toxins in our air, food, water, body products, cleaners, environment
Too much or too little exercise, high intensity exercise
Not getting enough sleep or quality sleep
So how can we fight it?
Fruits and veggies
And CBD or whole plant extracts
I mentioned earlier that I work with clients to reduce inflammation, improve symptoms, and get them feeling “healthy” again. It is a holistic approach with nutrition, lifestyle changes, herbs/supplements. There is no quick fix, no single pill, supplement, or CBD that will cure it. This is a lifestyle change. If you continue to eat crappy food, not get enough rest and recovery, if you don’t learn to relax every once in a while you will continue to have chronic inflammation. There is no CBD product out there that can out supplement unhealthy behaviors.
Here is what CBD can do… it can be helpful, and a natural supplement to aid in lowering inflammation. It works inside of our endocannabinoid system to bring that inflammatory response back to homeostasis. This is great news for anyone with autoimmune and/inflammatory illnesses as a supplement for treatment options, to help minimize symptoms and even side effects of medications they may choose to take.
Incorporating cannabis, hemp, CBD, whatever form you choose, along with some small lifestyle changes can make a big impact in your life.
